A Lesson for All of UsPosted by admin - 17/01/13 at 05:01 am
Though still unfolding, today’s news story about a Notre Dame football player seems to indicate that even talented people can be duped. What does that have to do with working strong?
Countless working men and women are, at this very moment, engaging in the willing suspension of disbelief. They know better, but still they tell themselves that their employer will protect them from the riptides of global economics.
They won’t. Because they can’t.
Companies exist to advance the financial interests of their shareholders. Sure, the good ones care about their employees. But, the ultimate criterion for corporate success is the bottom line. And, any time a choice must be made between profits and people, people will always come in last.
That’s why changing our outlook from career passifism to career activism is so important. Career activism is the way you work strong. It’s like taking an insurance policy out for your future. Each of us has to step up and take responsibility for protecting ourselves in the workplace … or risk being talented and duped.
